selfPortrait is here to champion the work of self-portrait photographers across the globe – telling their stories; showcasing their latest projects; and documenting the development of their work. We’re also producing content to inspire newcomers to the discipline to create their own self-portraiture, and to feel supported in doing so through the community we’re founding.
Our logo, which launched today, is all about the individual artist.
This androgynous figure, as illustrated by Richard Corrigan of Dogeatcog – a brilliant artist and design collective from York, UK – goes some way in representing anyone exploring self-portraiture.
With a wide-eyed gaze, the photographer depicted evokes the stance of figures in many self-portraits captured far in the past, often taken in reflections in mirrors or glass.
The focused expression of the person with camera in hand, in turn, illustrates the way in which we, as artists and makers, constantly produce fresh takes and discover new things about this fascinating, limitless craft.
